Proverbs 21:20

20There is desirable treasure,
And oil in the dwelling of the wise,
But a foolish man squanders it.
-Proverbs 21:20

It is the nature of the fool to squander the riches that he has. I consider this much more in the spiritual sense than the physical. While there is a physical reality to this, I find that the spiritual implication gives more weight to the depth of this verse. We have a desirable treasure found in Christ and the salvation that is offered. This is most definitely something that we have the ability to squander. Salvation is not the end goal for the believer. Salvation is the starting point. To have the Spirit of the Lord in you and being content in leaving your relationship with the Lord at salvation is a tragedy. You were saved for a purpose. You were brought in to be reconciled with the Father and have relationship with Him. How absurd would it be if I said the only thing that mattered about my wife is that I was married to her? The relationship is squandered. You may have the spiritual status of being saved. Do not let that become the entirety of your relationship with the Lord. Invest into your salvation and the treasure that is held in that.
