Proverbs 23:6-8

6Do not eat the bread of a miser,
Nor desire his delicacies;
7For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
“Eat and drink!” he says to you,
But his heart is not with you.
8The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up,
And waste your pleasant words.
-Proverbs 23:6-8

Similar to a few passages ago, we have another warning about those that we may dine with. The emphasis here is upon those who have ulterior motives in their generosity towards you. The major lesson that comes up here is that of discernment. We need to not automatically assume one's generosity is for our benefit alone, no matter how good it may sound. The right answer may be to politely decline. As the lesson has extended through many of these devotions, contentment in the Lord provides a great defense against the desire that may come from such bribes. See that the Lord cares for you so greatly and will make a way for you if it is need you are in. Do not hasten toward easy money simply for the sake of it. Have discernment and put your trust in the Lord.
