Proverbs 23:13-14

13Do not withhold correction from a child,
For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die.
14You shall beat him with a rod,
And deliver his soul from hell.
-Proverbs 23:13-14

Instruction, correction, and discipline are virtues for the believer. Now we are not to be harsh with our children, but that does mean we overcorrect and never give discipline. There is a balance between these two. A parent should not be reacting out of their anger to discipline their children. Be angry and do not sin, Scripture says. So let us act in wisdom in our conduct toward our children. Offer correction. It may preserve his life. Lead him in the way everlasting and it may preserve his soul.
