Proverbs 24:13-14

13My son, eat honey because it is good,
And the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste;
14So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul;
If you have found it, there is a prospect,
And your hope will not be cut off.
-Proverbs 24:13-14

It may appear as though these two verses don't have much to do with each other. There are a few things to consider as we look at these. The first is that the Lord designed honey to be good and pleasant to our taste and it is designed to be enjoyed. As believers, we do cast off ungodly desires and the lusts of the flesh, but that does not mean we forgo all pleasure. The fact that there are things that we can enjoy as a true and genuine pleasure helps us to reflect on how the Lord is good to us. Consider the Psalmist's words in Psalm 119,

"103How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!"
-Psalm 119:103

The words of God are sweeter than honey. Just as honey is sweet to our palate, so is the knowledge of wisdom to our souls. It is a delight and a relief to us. So let us delight in wisdom in such a regard. Let us find knowledge to be pleasant to our souls. Let the word of God reign in you richly.
