Psalm 5

    1      Give ear to my words, O LORD,
    Consider my meditation.
    2      Give heed to the voice of my cry,
    My King and my God,
    For to You I will pray.
    3      My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD;
    In the morning I will direct it to You,
    And I will look up.

    4      For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,
    Nor shall evil dwell with You.
    5      The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;
    You hate all workers of iniquity.
    6      You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;
    The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

    7      But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;
    In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.
    8      Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies;
    Make Your way straight before my face.

    9      For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;
    Their inward part is destruction;
    Their throat is an open tomb;
    They flatter with their tongue.
    10      Pronounce them guilty, O God!
    Let them fall by their own counsels;
    Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,
    For they have rebelled against You.

    11      But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
    Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
    Let those also who love Your name
    Be joyful in You.
    12      For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;
    With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

Psalm 5

God's attitude toward the wicked is not something that we should take lightly. Within this Psalm we see something of an unpopular teaching: the hatred of the Lord. Indeed God is a God of love and because of that very fact He is also a God of hate. And He must be, for it is impossible to love one thing and hate the opposer to that. If you love babies and value life, you will hate abortion. If you love peace you will hate chaos. If you love righteousness you will hate wickedness.

And so we see this reality within the Lord. Wickedness directly opposes Him and those who work iniquity are directly opposed to the Lord, working as an enemy against Him. We see continually on how the Lord is set upon the righteous. Now I find it important to mention the identity language being used here. "Workers of iniquity" is in that same vein as being a sinner which means "one who is devoted to sin". It is the identity of those who walk opposed to the Lord, those who walk as anti-christs. They stand guilty before the Lord as we all once have as well, being former enemies.

See then the attitude that God has upon the righteous. Should our trust be in the Lord there is rejoicing and praise to be had! Our identity has been changed in the Lord! As new creations we are righteous in the sight of God and can be ever joyful in the Lord. There is also promised blessing and favor for being in the Lord and having our trust in Him. So I challenge you to test your heart that you may trust in the Lord. Seek Him in prayer and search Him in His word. Trust in Him and He will give you strength.
