Psalm 11

    1      In the LORD I put my trust; How can you say to my soul,
    “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?
    2      For look! The wicked bend their bow,
    They make ready their arrow on the string,
    That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
    3      If the foundations are destroyed,
    What can the righteous do?

    4      The LORD is in His holy temple,
    The LORD’s throne is in heaven;
    His eyes behold,
    His eyelids test the sons of men.
    5      The LORD tests the righteous,
    But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
    6      Upon the wicked He will rain coals;
    Fire and brimstone and a burning wind
    Shall be the portion of their cup.

    7      For the LORD is righteous,
    He loves righteousness;
    His countenance beholds the upright.
-Psalm 11

Again we have the necessity to trust in the Lord presented to us. And again we recognize the opposition of the wicked against the Lord and those that are the Lord's. Reflecting back on a previous devotion concerning the justice and judgment of the Lord, I want us again to recognize the all knowing nature of the Lord.

The Lord, from His throne in heaven, looks upon mankind and examines their works. In Revelation, Jesus is depicted as having eyes of fire. These are those that burn through all the works that man may try to hide behind, and through them He sees and weighs the heart. Upon His examination of mankind, He looks even more intently upon the righteous while opposing the wicked. He continues to test the righteous that they would be confirmed as righteous.

See why the Lord responds to mankind in such ways. "For the LORD is righteous..." Because God Himself is the very nature of righteousness, He loves those who walk in righteousness and looks favorably upon the righteous. Now before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let us remember who is considered righteous.

"21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
-2 Cor. 5:21

We who are born again in Christ Jesus are those who are now righteous. We continue to walk in the way of the Lord and, having now a new spirit, we are inclined to righteousness. Walk steadfastly in the Lord and continue in the way of righteousness. Praise the Lord!
