Psalm 25:6-7

    6      Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses,
    For they are from of old.
    7      Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions;
    According to Your mercy remember me,
    For Your goodness’ sake, O LORD.
-Psalm 25:6-7

How great are the mercies of God!

I have heard far too many times while growing up in the Church that the Old Testament God was mean and full of wrath while the New Testament God was full of grace and love. For a time of my life, I believed it thoroughly. However, in reading through the Word with the right lens I started to see things differently. I saw an incredible of expression of grace and mercy through the Old Testament and a daunting reality of wrath in the New Testament. I then came to a right understand that God is unchanging. His wrath abides upon the sons of disobedience and His grace to the righteous.

How great then are the mercies of God! They are from of old, as this Psalm points out. It is in the very nature of God to walk in mercies and lovingkindness. Micah 7:18 actually points out that God delights in showing mercy. He does not will that any should perish, but that we should come into a right relationship with Him. Your sins are no longer remembered and are not held against you. The grace of God is mighty to save and the mercy of God is mighty to forgive. Rejoice in Him, the Lord of your salvation!
