Psalm 25:12-15

12      Who is the man that fears the LORD?
Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.
13      He himself shall dwell in prosperity,
And his descendants shall inherit the earth.
14      The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him,
And He will show them His covenant.
15      My eyes are ever toward the LORD,
For He shall pluck my feet out of the net.
-Psalm 25:12-15

Do you fear the Lord? This can be an intimidating question for some of us. There is a sense where some of us may feel it to be wrong to fear the Lord, as though there is nothing to fear with us being in Christ Jesus. While this is true in part, there is definitely a fear we ought to have with the Lord.

We do not fear phenomena like lightning because it is mean. We fear such things because they are powerful. We understand what they are capable of and do not want to oppose it. We give it the respect that it is due and refrain from acting foolishly towards it. Likewise, we do not fear God because He is mean, we fear what He is capable of. Jesus shares in Luke 12 not to fear him who can kill your body, but to fear Him who after He has killed your body can cast your soul into eternal fire.

What then does it mean for us to walk in the fear of the Lord as believers? Well I think we have a very good answer highlighted for us in the book of Acts. It says the disciples walked in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit. This is the attitude we ought to carry about. Give the Lord the place that He is due, understanding the vast consequences for opposing Him. In this place you are able to be taught by the Lord and will have wonders revealed to you concerning His glory. Set your eyes ever to the Lord.
