Psalm 31:6-8

    6      I have hated those who regard useless idols;
    But I trust in the LORD.
    7      I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy,
    For You have considered my trouble;
    You have known my soul in adversities,
    8      And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy;
    You have set my feet in a wide place.
-Psalm 31:6-8

What is your attitude towards those things that oppose the Lord? Biblically, the proper response is to hate it. In Jude we are told to hate even the garment defiled by the flesh. This means that even those things that are in basic contact with wickedness we are to be separated from. We should not join ourselves to the things of this world as we strive to draw near to God. Let us be clear to you that drawing closer to the things of this world is drawing away from the Lord.

See how David is drawing near to the Lord. First he is trusting in the Lord. Then, he is rejoicing in the Lord while recognizing the work that the Lord is doing. Many of us can struggle to draw near to the Lord simply because of the fact that we do not know how. Obedience, trust, and praise are all incredible ways to draw near to the Lord. You will have the eyes to see the Lord considering your troubles and comforting you in adversity. You will also see the reality that your feet will be set in a wide place, a place of security in the Lord. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
