Psalm 99:1-5

1The Lord reigns;
Let the peoples tremble!
He dwells between the cherubim;
Let the earth be moved!
2The Lord is great in Zion,
And He is high above all the peoples.
3Let them praise Your great and awesome name—
He is holy.
4The King’s strength also loves justice;
You have established equity;
You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
5Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His footstool—
He is holy.
-Psalm 99:1-5

When you think of the Lord, what comes to your mind? Is it His incredible graciousness? Perhaps it is guilt-ridden fear. How about that which this Psalm brings up that God reigns? This can be a very good indicator of where we are with the Lord. It can also help us know where we want to be with the Lord. There was a place I was at in my faith where I lived in that guilt-ridden fear. As I read through Psalms such as this I found myself longing to rejoice at the fact that the Lord reigns. It, however, did not seem to have that kind of impact on me. I lacked understanding at what an impactful statement that truly was.

As I grew in the Lord and faced various trials, this began to hold more and more weight in my life. The continuous praise of the holiness of the Lord stood higher in my mind as I grew to understand the wickedness of the world. The closer I grew to the Lord and His goodness, the more distinctive praises became. Wherever you may be in your faith, continue to seek to grow. Where is it that you want to be in your faith? How do you get to that? This is a healthy line of questioning for any believer at any given point. Seek the Lord with a whole heart and rejoice in Him continually.
