Psalm 119 - Tsadde

137Righteous are You, O Lord,
And upright are Your judgments.
138Your testimonies, which You have commanded,
Are righteous and very faithful.
139My zeal has consumed me,
Because my enemies have forgotten Your words.
140Your word is very pure;
Therefore Your servant loves it.
141I am small and despised,
Yet I do not forget Your precepts.
142Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
And Your law is truth.
143Trouble and anguish have overtaken me,
Yet Your commandments are my delights.
144The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting;
Give me understanding, and I shall live.
-Psalm 119:137-144

I have had many conversations with believers disagreeing with John in 1 John saying that the commandments of Christ are not burdensome. Even more conversations have a I had with believers that getting into the word is just monotonous and exhausting. See the contrast here in verse 140. Because of the purity of the Word, the servant loves it. As we discussed a few days ago, we as believers love purity. The word of God should be a refresher to us. Wading through the murky waters of the world, having the pure water flowing from the Word is rejuvenating. However, when one develops an appetite for junk food, even though a salad would be great for us, it can still lose its appeal. If, in this way, you have lost an appeal for the Word, I encourage you to repent and rest soundly on the Word. If you are finding that refreshment in daily study of the Word, praise the Lord! Continue zealously to walk in that and maintain that love for purity.
