Psalm 141:1-2

1Lord, I cry out to You;
Make haste to me!
Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You.
2Let my prayer be set before You as incense,
The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
-Psalm 141:1-2

Some of the language that surrounds prayer and praise astound me because it compares it to temple activities. When studying these, we begin to further understand what it means when Scripture talks about our bodies being the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are not just a dwelling place for Him, but we actively take part in a form of sacrifice. Hebrews talks about praise being a freewill offering from our mouth. Here we have our prayer being as incense. Revelation also speaks of the prayers of the saints being lifted up to the Lord as incense. The lifting of our hands is as the evening sacrifice. Just as these were things Israel needed to partake of as a nation, see how these are things we must partake in as a church and as individuals. Be intentional in your prayer life. Be intentional in giving praise.
