Proverbs 24:30-34

    30      I went by the field of the lazy man,
    And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding;
    31      And there it was, all overgrown with thorns;
    Its surface was covered with nettles;
    Its stone wall was broken down.
    32      When I saw it, I considered it well;
    I looked on it and received instruction:
    33      A little sleep, a little slumber,
    A little folding of the hands to rest;
    34      So shall your poverty come like a prowler,
    And your need like an armed man.
-Proverbs 24:30-34

Hardly does a statement need to be made regarding the danger of laziness. Perhaps we can take another spin on a text like this that does not deviate from meaning at all. Laziness can express itself in many different regards. While most of us are not lazy when it comes to physically working, many of us falter when it comes to our spiritual development. We will put in hours of labor to physical things but struggle to put a few minutes down for spiritual things. Consider Jesus' parable of the sower. The cares and affairs of this life choked out a seed that originally showed great promise. While many of us should be flourishing, we have become overly comfortable and are content in having briars and thorns in our faith. Let us put our diligence into the relationship we get to have with the Lord. Be invested in the Word. Be invested in prayer. Be invested in walking out your salvation. Be invested in the Lord.
