Proverbs 28:19

19He who tills his land will have plenty of bread,
But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough!
-Proverbs 28:19

Tilling is defined as preparing and cultivating land for crops. Let us consider the spiritual implications of this verse. The grounds of hearts are important to prepare to receive the word of God. Consider Jesus' parable of the sower in Matthew 13. The conditions of the grounds is what ultimately determined how the word was received. Either it was too rocky, too weedy, or it was good soil that found deep roots. We need to be diligent to prepare the soil of our hearts to receive the word of God. Should we do so, we will be able to feast well upon what He says. But if we are frivolous in our conduct and neglect the soil of our hearts, we will be impoverished before the Lord, having nothing to feed upon. Seek to be good recipients of His word and abide in the Vine.
