Proverbs 27:13

13Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger,
And hold it in pledge when he is surety for a seductress.
-Proverbs 27:13

There is a common thread for the believer of needing to be a good steward of what we have. The issue that we often run into is defining what a good steward is on our own standards. The best steward will do what the master instructs for them to do. While most would think it would be foolish for a rich man to sell all he has and distribute to the poor, Jesus, our Master, may call some of us to such things. Where many would view living small and making less money as foolish, the Lord may call people to such things. The point of what I am saying here is that we need to understand how the Lord instructs us to use what we have.

When it comes to lending out money, we need to have a great deal of wisdom. Is it wise to lend to an ungodly individual who is bad with money? Should you lend money out at all? There are times where the Lord may call you to risky behaviors like this. Yet, as a general principle, we need to be cautious. Consider the Lord in how you steward what He has entrusted to you. Do not just go and spend on yourself or throw money around for the fun of it. Seek the Lord and obey.
