Proverbs 27:9
9Ointment and perfume delight the heart,
And the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel.
-Proverbs 27:9
We have all become far too sensitive in the modern day. Rebuke and correction need to be valued. It is the sweetness of a friend that they would bring wise counsel and correct foolishness. However we tend to become bitter toward those that bring correction. I have seen this in men and women, young and old. There are few that I have seen successfully walk this out. It is one that I have had to wrestle with many times over as I have been corrected. My dad had told me often as I grew up that I did not receive correction well. He was correct. However, as I look back at the correction that I have received, I am grateful. It stuck me on a better path than I would be without it. I needed the counsel. I needed the messages that were being shared to circulate in my mind. It has served as a rod of correction continually. While that rod at first stung, I find myself so grateful to be surrounded by so many faithful men in the Lord that would counsel me as they do. Do not flee from correction. Do not hide from rebuke. Find the ability to delight in those that love you enough to help put you on the right path. Hasten to those people.
