Proverbs 27:10

10Do not forsake your own friend or your father’s friend,
Nor go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity;
Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
-Proverbs 27:10

I cannot begin to emphasize enough how important the body of Christ is for this very thing. Now, it needs to be stated that this verse is not telling us to neglect our family. However, it is emphasizing that we should not simply run to our family because they are family. We must foster relationships around us. The gathering of the saints provides us with the unique opportunity to forge relationships that go deeper than blood. It is not the blood of the flesh that unites us, but the blood of Jesus. Many of us come from backgrounds where our own families are neglectful of us. Some of us come from bad households full of wickedness and unbelief. Would it not be better to run to those who are united with you in Christ in the day of adversity? Seek to foster that relationship with other believers. Sit down with them for meals. Be vulnerable and share your life with them. Do not hide yourself away. The Lord provides security for the saints among the saints. Join in with the fellowship of the Lord.
