Proverbs 27:18

18Whoever keeps the fig tree will eat its fruit;
So he who waits on his master will be honored.
-Proverbs 27:18

The one who tends to the fig tree may have to wait many seasons before it starts bearing fruit. However, once it does bear fruit, that work was well worth it. So the same for the man who waits on his master. Now for us, our Master is the Lord. This is a spiritual discipline that I wish I had mastered earlier and that I continue to strive for. We should be actively waiting on the Lord. Often times we find that we are trying to rush our bible time and our prayer times, rather than sitting there waiting on our Master. If you'd just wage that war through the flesh, through the distractions, and sit in that place of prayer before the Lord until you had something from Him, you'd be like that man eating of the fruit of his labor. The Lord will be your sustenance. Wait upon Him and He will renew your strength.
