Proverbs 27:21

21The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
And a man is valued by what others say of him.
-Proverbs 27:21

When silver and gold are placed in a crucible and fired in a furnace, it reveals the impurities within them. The metals will settle and the slag will be left on top, carrying many impurities along with it. A similar process of bringing impurity to the top can come from the simple action of giving someone a compliment. Give someone a compliment and see what comes as a result. Is it received in humility or in arrogance and egotism? Also, one can look at the substance of what is said of another individual. What do they highlight? It is refining to find that which others see and it can bring up that which others don't. Let our characters be tested and tried in the fire that we may be presented before the Lord as holy and blameless.
