Proverbs 28:7-8

7      Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son,
But a companion of gluttons shames his father.
8      One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion
Gathers it for him who will pity the poor.
-Proverbs 28:7-8

To which do you flock? Do you hasten to those who walk in sin? Do you run to those who use whatever means they have to gather up for themselves? Or do you run to the instruction of the Father and grow in your discernment? Discernment is more than just some kind of spiritual gift. It is a virtue of the believer. As we draw nearer to the Lord and grow in understanding concerning the word, we grow in that very wisdom that helps us to discern that which is wicked and that which is good. This understanding is of course more than just knowing information. If we have understanding regarding the word of God in the form of obedience, we will have a far greater understanding of discernment. You may study battle tactics and arts of warfare for years, but it would matter not if there were no implementation of it. The one who is taught about war and the one who experience war and trained differently. One of them knows how to discern the battlefield better than the other. Let us walk in obedience to the Lord and follow His instruction that we may be better discerners of the world around us. Delight yourself in the Word and in Him.
