Proverbs 25:21-22

21If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;
And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
22For so you will heap coals of fire on his head,
And the Lord will reward you.
-Proverbs 25:21-22

This is a passage many of us misunderstand. Our motives enter into this wrong from the start. We think that this passage has to do with kindness being a form of revenge. On the contrary, it is leaving the judgment of that individual to God. We are not to overcome evil with evil but are to overcome evil with good. We must show ourselves to be above reproach in all things. If the intent of our kindness is to frustrate our opponents, what good is our kindness? It should be done in the hopes of that individual repenting. As we move with pure intent and joyfully serve the Lord in loving radically as we have bene loved, we will be rewarded.
