Proverbs 26:7-9

7Like the legs of the lame that hang limp
Is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
8Like one who binds a stone in a sling
Is he who gives honor to a fool.
9Like a thorn that goes into the hand of a drunkard
Is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
-Proverbs 26:7-9

Consider each of these analogies and consider the fool in his state. What good will a proverb do in the mouth of a fool? If a fool cannot bear to walk in wisdom, why should we expect or anticipate any measure of wisdom to be distributed from them? The legs of a lame man are useless. A drunkard seeking to remove a thorn from their hand fumbles the very thing that causes pain and causes yet more damage. A stone bound in a sling is the equivalent of gluing an arrow to a bow string. It is purposeless. So we can see how the fool interacts with wisdom. All the more so should we seek to have foolishness eradicated from our own lives. Continue to seek the Lord that you would be sanctified by Him and grow in wisdom through Him.
