Proverbs 27:4

4Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent,
But who is able to stand before jealousy?
-Proverbs 27:4

I find it interesting that we often think opposite of this passage. We do not mind when people are jealous of us. In fact, some of us even go out of our way to provoke jealousy in others. But we would actively seek for wrath and anger to be set aside from us. We do not want to be in its wake. A wrathful man and an angry man will often find a conclusion to their outbursts, but jealousy is a slow burn.

Let us consider the very act of robbery. Is it that they are wrathful toward you or angry with you? On the contrary, it begins with jealousy that others have and they do not. So they go out of their way to take from those that have that they might have instead. The jealousy of the husband for his wife as often driven men to make vindictive decisions. Jealousy has broken many a family apart and driven many men and women away from the Lord. We are instructed not to be those who are led or consumed by jealousy. Let us not be such a people. Let us derive all of our satisfaction from the Lord.
